Mandolin

Mandolin is a healthcare startup building AI agents to manage tedious, but business critical, back office tasks so busy doctors and care teams can focus on what they do best: taking care of patients. With high task completion accuracy and zero integration effort, Mandolin is delivering a ton of value to hospital systems, and growing fast. With a big industry conference in 2 weeks time, they wanted to put their best foot forward, especially for potential buyers. They needed a fresh take on their website and promotional materials, stat. Specifically, Mandolin’s founders wanted a fresh visual identity and help more clearly communicating their core value proposition, while also showcasing their product in a compelling way.

Given the short timeline, we took a sprint-like approach: we skipped formal artifacts (moodboards, wireframes, etc) in favor of frequent, live working sessions with the Mandolin team. We gathered preferences and requirements—and made fast decisions on content, copy, and design—all in realtime. We took short breaks to synthesize ideas and firm up directions from one live working session, to review and bring to the next one, rinse and repeat. In a fast and furious 2 weeks, our team redesigned Mandolin’s website, built it in Wordpress, and designed conference materials including a booth backdrop, brochure, and business cards.

Let’s talk design details: While they wanted to keep their logo, everything else was up for grabs. To keep branding cohesive, we borrowed visual cues from the logo to develop a visual language using concentric lines and a new shaded glass element. The glass evokes a feeling of expansion, echoing how Mandolin expands a care team’s capabilities. Color-wise, a new electric blue, paired with a subdued navy blue for contrast, helps them standout in a sea of generic “medical blue” hues commonly used in healthcare. Our team paid extra care in designing a dedicated product page and homepage module to showcase how Mandolin's product adds value at every step of the treatment lifecycle, from patient intake to insurance claim tracking and reimbursement. We took a “show don’t tell” approach with UI illustrations per step, connecting the dots between a care team's workload and how Mandolin takes it off their hands.
